Josephine David Ward

Josephine David Ward died on Saturday, January 3, 2009, of heart failure and complications of diabetes. She was 90 years old.
Josephine Mary David was born in Jacksonville, Florida on April 16, 1918. She graduated from the Florida  School for the Deaf and Blind and lived with her family in Jacksonville until she moved to Los Angeles, California in the 1950s to live with her cousin there. She worked as a key punch operator and met Jimmie Lee Ward of Texas and Oklahoma, whom she married on June 16, 1951. They had two daughters, Conne and Becky, and eventually moved back to Jacksonville where
Josephine worked as a bookkeeper for David Concrete Products, a construction-related business owned by her brothers. Josephine was the fifth child of Selma and Naif David, one of six children. Her brothers and sisters have all passed on.

Josephine and Jimmie divorced in the 1970s, and Josephine moved to Atlanta in 1986 when she retired from David Concrete Products. She lived in a condo in Decatur until she moved in with her daughter Conne, her son-in-law David Cameron and her ex-husband Jimmie in 2001. Her hobby was reading and she would spend hours each day immersed in a book. She enjoyed cooking Syrian food which she had learned from her Syria-born parents, an she passed on some of those recipes to her daughters. Before she lost her leg to diabetes,
Josephine loved to drive her little car to go visit her friends and
go shopping. She was a generous woman who even grew to enjoy her daughter's cats and dogs with whom she shared her home. Although she would fuss about them bothering her, she could often be found giving one of the cats a ride around her rooms on her walker.

Brought up Catholic, Josephine attended Holy Trinity Parish, an
Episcopal church in Decatur. She and Jimmie had joined the Episcopal Church in Jacksonville when they built their home just around the corner from St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Arlington.

Her loss is deeply felt by her family. They ask that in lieu of
flowers, contributions be made to Holy Trinity Parish, 515 E. Ponce de Leon Avenue, Decatur, Georgia 30030 to benefit the interpreter's fund there.
