JANIE RUTH CARTER Janie Ruth Carter, age 83, of Applewood Towers, in
Lawrenceville, GA, died January 6, 2008, following a stroke two weeks
earlier. Mrs. Carter is preceded in death by her parents, William Henry and
Jannie Browder Cook; Husband, Norman Lloyd Maxwell in 1956 and Husband,
Ralph Carter in 2004, and Step-mother, Hattie Snow Cook. She is survived by
her Daughter, Jeanie Maxwell Trotochaud and husband Terry of Athens, GA;
Daughter, Lisa Carter Breazeale and John Morgan of Lithia Springs, GA; Twin
Brother, Jamie William Cook, Sr. and wife Doris of Rome, GA; four
Grandchildren; three Great-Grandchildren; Several Nieces, Nephews and
Special Cousins in AL. Mrs. Carter was raised in the Rome area and graduated
from the Georgia School for the Deaf in Cave Springs, GA where she continued
to return for Homecoming Celebrations. She was a member of the
Crusselle-Freeman Church of the Deaf in Atlanta and was also a member of the
Fraternal Society of the Deaf. She was a seamstress in the upholstery
industry with over 27 years of service and was still making gifts for her
family and friends even through this recent holiday season. Her friendships
were not just limited to the deaf community. Her fellow residents at
Applewood admired her out-going personality and generous spirit that gave
her the ability to communicate with everyone. A Service Celebrating the Life
of Mrs. Carter will be Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at Tom M.
Wages Lawrenceville Chapel. Interment Services will be at 1:00 PM at Oaknoll
Memorial Gardens in Rome. Her nephew, Rev. Jamie Cook to officiate. The
family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the
funeral home. Those desiring may make donations to the Crusselle-Freeman

Waldo Jesse Ballard, 64, passed away on Monday January 28,
2008 at
his home in Pooler.
Waldo was a graduate of the Georgia School for the Deaf, a member of the Georgia
Association of the Deaf, the Southeast Club for the Deaf, and the LIFE Group. He
worked with the United States Postal Service
as a mail handler for 22 years.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn Chan Ballard; a son and daughter-in-law,
Gilbert and Rhonda Ballard of Savannah; a daughter and son-in-law, Eva and Russ
Underberg of Olive Branch, MS; 3 sisters, Sally
Bolton of Savannah, Virginia Tillman of Brooklet and Ann Miller of Indiana; 3
grandchildren.
Visitation: 6-8 P.M. Thursday at Fairhaven Funeral Home.
Funeral Services: 1 P.M. Friday, Graveside at Hillcrest West Cemetery.

Steve Dupree
STEVE DUPREE, 56, of Marietta, formerly of Cartersville, died Tuesday, Jan 29,
2008. The body was cremated. A private service is planned; Carmichael Funeral
Home, Marietta.

He was a former student at Virginia School For The Deaf in 1967 and Georgia
School for the Deaf. His Oldest brother was Carl Dupree who was choked to death
by one of the Gallaudet University campus security guards few years ago.

Lillian Louella Hall McBride, 83, of Quitman passed away Thursday, June 26, 2008
at Brooks County Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Cook co., Ga. She was the daughter of Louis Leon and Willie Mae McLeod
Hall. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of God. She is survived by
her son and daughter-in-law; Eudine and Sandra McBride of Quitman. She was
preceded in death by her husband Lesser McBride, Sister Mary Hanner, and
brother-in-law Quincy Hanner.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 28 at 11:00 AM in Oak Hill
Cemetery with Rev. Wilbur McBride officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday night from 6:00 to
8:00 PM.

Son in Law: Beth and Cale Harbour of Grayson, GA, Grandchildren; Jenna and Jacob

Nieces and Nephews. Mr. Tallant was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years

BROWN, Walter Walter A. Brown, 82, of Cumming, GA, passed away on Thursday,
October 2. Mr. Brown was born in Phenix City, AL, and was a printer for the
Columbus Ledger, Ruralis Press and The Washington Post. He will long be
remembered for his outstanding efforts on behalf of, and his dedication to, the
Deaf Community. He was a founding member of the Georgia Sunday School
Association of the Deaf
and the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf, a past board member of the National
Association of the Deaf, president of the Georgia Association of the Deaf for 10
years, a charter Board Member of GACHI and a member of Crusselle-Freeman Church.
He attended the Georgia School for the Deaf, Georgia State University and
Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. He taught the first accredited Sign
Language class at Georgia State. During his decade as GAD President, he met with
three Georgia Governors as an advocate for the Deaf Community and lobbied for
the establishment of the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf. Mr. Brown is survived
by his beloved wife of 61 years, Joyce Brown; daughters, Versie (Pat) Muldowney
and Debbie (Mark) Provano; grandchildren, Kim Roper, Daphne (Todd) Allred,
Jennifer (Julian) Collier, Matt (Jennifer) Provano and A.J. Muldowney;
great-grandchildren, Sarah Allred, Sabrina Allred, William Collier and Jamie
Collier; a brother, Herbert Brown; sisters, Margaret Dansby, Martha Tillery and
Yvonne Dey; many nieces and nephews, and his precious dog, Chrissie. A memorial
service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at McDonald & Son Funeral Home &
Crematory, 150 Sawnee Drive, Cumming, GA. The family asks that donations in Mr.

Tessie Nadine Rodgers Shaffer, 90, of Moultrie, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at
her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at
Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J.E. Moak officiating.
Interment will follow in Enon Cemetery in Thomas County. Ray Douglas, James
Demha, Travis Carlton, Roman Harrison, Pablo Cantu and Michael Adderton will
serve as pallbearers.Born Oct. 3, 1918, in Thomas County, Mrs. Shaffer was a
retired beautician and former owner operator of Tessie's Beauty Shop. She was a
member of First Baptist Church in Moultrie, was an avid gardener and a fan of
WWA wrestling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wilson Shaffer; a son, Donnie
Mack Hart; three brothers, William Rodgers, Wesley Rodgers and Earl Rodgers; and
three sisters, Cora Silver, Minnie Barton and Lillie Snipes.Survivors include a
host of nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and extended family
members; and a special friend, Pablo Cantu of Moultrie.The family will receive

Herbert Leon White, 77, died at University Medical Center at Brackenridge in
Austin, Texas on Oct 23, 2008 after a car accident.
He is survived by his wife Mary Lynn White, his daughter Debbie, son, David and
two grandchildren.
GEORGIA MAN VISITING DAUGHTER DIES AFTER WRECK
A 77 year old Georgia man died after a collision Thursday morning on U.S. 290
West, police said. A Dodge pickup was westbound about 7 a.m. when it crossed the
center lane and side-swiped an eastbound Volkswagen Jetta in the 6900 block of
U.S. 290 West, just east of the U.S. 290/Texas 71 split in Oak Hill, police
said. The Dodge then hit an oncoming Chevrolet Lumina. Warren Hassinger, a
spokesman for Austin/Travis County Emergency Medical Services, said Herbert Leon
White, the driver of the Lumina, went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced
dead at University Medical Center at Brackenridge. His wife (Mary Lynn White)
has multiple fractures. They were in town from Georgia visiting their daughter
and her family. Police spokesman SGT. Richard Stresing said the Volkswagen
driver was treated at the scene and released. The wreck is under investigation,
police said. It was Austin/s 49th traffic fatality in 2008. (Accident report
