Destin Hattaway was a 2001 graduate of Georgia School for the Deaf

By Krystle S. Wilson (Destin's childhood friend)

The death of Destin James Hattaway has rocked this Deaf community to its core; his death was shocking, unexpected, and we're all grieving in our own way.

He was 24 years old, he lived a full, beautiful life. In the words of his mother, Judy, "He has touched everyone's lives... he loved all of his friends...." Destin was engaged to be married to a lovely young lady named Carrie, he was in the process of getting his GED, and was working at the Foundry Park in Athens, GA.

Destin was born to Dennis and Judy Hattaway on September 1, 1982. He became deaf from menegitis, since then, he's become a part of the deaf community. He attended to Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary School,
then to Fourth Street Elementary School, for a part of his middle school years, he attended to Burney Harris Lyons Middle School then from there he went on to Georgia School for the Deaf where he graduated from in 2004. He was currently attending Athens Technical College to receive his GED. He left behind a wonderful fiancee
Carrie; his parents, Judy and Dennis Hattaway; A sister/brother in law, Franchesa and Tripp Hill, and a little nephew named Issac Hill; his grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles; and his friends.

May 20th, 2007 going home from Deaf Day at Six Flags/a late party (still unknown exactly what party he was at but let it be known, NO ONE WAS DRUNK) Destin and his two friends, Kyle Redd (Jefferson, GA)
and Brian Taylor (Tenn) was on their way to Kyle's home. Kyle and Brian both was asleep in the truck (Kyle was in the front passenger's seat while Brian was in the back seat). Destin was driving, one mile from Kyle's home, Destin Fell asleep at the wheel.

While asleep, the truck was approaching a curve and it went off the road and hit a tree. Destin and Kyle Redd was killed on impact, died fast. Brian was airlifted to Grady Hospital in Atlanta where his condition remains unknown.

Such a sad time, but let's all keep in mind, Destin was a beautiful person with a beautiful soul, He'll NEVER be forgotten because he has touched all of us in our hearts. Let's keep Destin's loved ones in our thoughts and prayers as they go through this time of sadness and grief.
